Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
London Waste Removals is committed to conducting all aspects of its business ethically, responsibly and in full compliance with applicable laws. This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. It applies to all employees, contractors, agency workers and suppliers engaged by London Waste Removals.
Our Business and Supply Chains
London Waste Removals provides waste collection, clearance and recycling services to residential, commercial and industrial clients. Our activities rely on a network of suppliers and subcontractors, including vehicle and equipment providers, recycling facilities, uniform and consumable suppliers and staffing agencies. We recognise that certain areas of the waste and recycling sector, as well as some international supply chains, may be at higher risk of labour exploitation, and we take proactive measures to address those risks.
Zero-Tolerance Approach to Modern Slavery
We operate a clear zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery, human trafficking, forced or compulsory labour and child labour in any form. London Waste Removals will not knowingly engage with or support any business or individual involved in such practices. Any breach or suspected breach of this policy is treated as a serious matter and may result in termination of employment or business relationships, as well as reporting to the relevant authorities where appropriate.
Policies and Governance
Our anti-slavery and human trafficking commitments are embedded within our broader ethical conduct and human resources policies. These policies are approved by senior management and communicated to all staff during induction and through periodic refreshers. Managers are responsible for ensuring that these standards are applied consistently in their teams and areas of responsibility.
We promote fair recruitment practices, ensure that all workers have the right to work, and prohibit the charging of recruitment fees to workers. Employees are free to leave their employment with reasonable notice and are not required to lodge deposits or identity documents with the company.
Supplier Due Diligence and Audits
We expect the same high standards from our suppliers and subcontractors that we apply to our own operations. All key suppliers are required to confirm their compliance with relevant labour and human rights legislation and to uphold standards aligned with this statement. We assess new suppliers through a risk-based due diligence process, taking into account sector, geography, nature of the goods or services and workforce profile.
Where risks are identified, we may conduct additional checks, request supporting documentation or conduct on-site assessments. We reserve the right to audit suppliers, either directly or through third parties, to verify compliance. If a supplier fails to meet our requirements or to implement agreed corrective actions, we may suspend or terminate the relationship.
Training and Awareness
To support effective implementation of this statement, we provide training and guidance to relevant employees, particularly those involved in procurement, contract management and site operations. Training covers the indicators of modern slavery, how to respond to concerns and how to use our reporting channels. We also communicate our expectations to suppliers and encourage them to cascade similar standards through their own supply chains.
Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing
London Waste Removals encourages all employees, suppliers, contractors and other stakeholders to report any concerns or suspicions of modern slavery or human trafficking at the earliest opportunity. Concerns can be raised with a line manager, a senior manager or directly with our designated compliance contact. Reports may be made confidentially, and we will take all reasonable steps to protect individuals who raise concerns in good faith from retaliation or detrimental treatment.
All reports are investigated promptly and sensitively. Where appropriate, we will involve external specialists or law enforcement and take necessary steps to safeguard affected individuals.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We are committed to continuous improvement in identifying, assessing and mitigating the risk of modern slavery in our operations and supply chains. This includes reviewing our policies, due diligence processes, contractual standards and training content in light of evolving best practice and any issues identified through audits, investigations or stakeholder feedback.
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is reviewed annually by senior management to ensure its ongoing suitability and effectiveness. Any significant changes or enhancements are approved at director level and communicated to employees and key suppliers. By maintaining a clear zero-tolerance stance and robust controls, London Waste Removals aims to contribute to the wider effort to eradicate modern slavery and protect the rights and dignity of all workers.
